We are now accepting entries for the Syntec Top Car Challenge. We WILL be picking a reader's car for the challenge. If you feel like your car has what it takes to kill the competition, you need to let us know. You could win $10,000. The site is now up and ready to take your submissions.

Tests will include:

• Lap Times: Teams compete for the single fastest lap time during a 20 minute session on the road course.
• ¼ Mile Time: Cars compete for quickest ending times, best of 3 runs.
• ¼ Trap Speed: Cars compete for fastest trap speed, best of 3 runs
• Horsepower: Using a dyno, cars will be tested to find who has the highest peak horsepower. Teams will be limited to 3 runs.
• Power to Weight: Cars will be weighed at the dyno to calculate who has the best ratio.
• Emissions: Vehicles will be tested with a 5 gas automobile emissions analyzer.
• Acceleration: 0-60mph using a radar gun.
• Braking: 80-0mph using a radar gun.
• Endurance: Cars will have to test out their endurance in the brutal test of Los Angeles traffic by driving to the track in the middle of rush hour traffic.
• Vehicle Cost: Scores will be based on the current used car value.

1. I think that LRM has something up their sleeves for these import kats. Mustangs will probably break down driving to the track. :-P
It's not always "Slow n Low" for us.

2. I've got news for you. The Cobra (Mustang) for 5.0 is a daily driver and will be cruising to Button Willow with the windows up, air on and system bumping. It won't have any problems driving to the track and can even pull 25mpg if I keep it at 65mph. Unlike the sponsored race cars the other mags picked that were built by professionals 5.0 picked a real readers car that was built by the owner.

3. I built my 68 Caprice too. I'm curious to see how these overlstressed tuners will do. I've driven my car to Houston, Denver, Phoenix, and all over Cali. Crossed New Mexico going 110mph stateline to stateline. Not sweatin' the 178 miles to the track either. Well within my fuel range. Lookin forward to competing against you. Oldskool Art

4. Thanks Art. It looks like we are the only ones who built our own cars who aren't either professional racers or tuners. Don't get me wrong, I fully exspect to give them a run for their money but it does suck that we have to compete against cars that have $50,000 - $100,000 invested in them and were built by professional shops. I built my car myself in my driveway. Everything I added for the competition was done by me in my driveway and I'm not a professional in the auto industry. Like most of the readers of these magazines I'm just an enthusiast who enjoys working on his cars and trucks. Ron

5. well I have seen Oldskool Arts car in the shows and when he is trying to show off and let me tell you all... it does not have 600 horsepower and funny of all it is always breaking down go figure how was he chosen to represent lowrider?... he is going to put lowrider, UCE and its community to shame. Well I guess someone has to take him off his shoulders...

6. Not quite sure what your point of reference is nor when I've tried to show off my power, because I don't "hot dog" with my car at car shows due to club rules and safety. Which I'm cool with. Yeah, had a starter go bad, and a defective crank, but that was it. *** breaks, oh well. That's why having the skills to fix it helps. Since then, the car has been trouble free and retuned. Sorry u feel that way about the car. I guess you have a year to build a better one and prove your skills. ;-) And yes, I built my car in my driveway too, so it will be interesting to mess with the tuners.

7. It was a hell of time competing and showing them what the 68 was capable of doing. Didn't break nor miss a beat. Racing on the track was a lifetime thrill! Thanks Ron for finding another 100 horsepower in the 68.

9. My bad bro. The crew was itchin' to hit the road. I vapor-locked just like KJ at the grapevine, but watered down the lines at the rest stop on the hill. No probs avter that. Here's my number.... It's no secret. lol.
